Keval and I met at the Mandir, we are volunteers at Saptah Mandir based in Durban. We have known each other ever since the Mandir opened in 2005, but we only started dating in 2015. I guess we can say God brought us together 🙂

Planning the big day:

Planning was nothing short of amazing! If you are the type of person who knows what you want then it just makes planning your big day so much easier and fun.

Keval and I are both simpletons, nothing extremely over the top, simple in a sleek way.
Keeping budgets in mind we did not wish to over spend either. We wanted to do everything traditionally and by the book. A typical “Big fat Indian wedding”.

My family and I were able to travel to India pre- lockdown. The trip was super exciting, going to India (Navsari, Gujarat) just made things simpler for us, as I walked through the area and the streets I was able to find everything and more that I needed. It also brought with it tons of new memories.

We had everything under control, all suppliers and venues booked and confirmed, until March 2020 and then…COVID hit!!! A covid wedding is no Joke! Our wedding was initially booked for June 2020 however, after the President announced lockdown regulations we were left with no choice but to postpone our date.

I had initially planned a very big sangeet function. Coming from a family of all dancers it was the only way to do it. We love to dance we had a whole theme set, but because of covid it became extremely difficult to plan this.
We eventually rescheduled and rescaled our wedding. It took place in December 2020 instead. Despite all the challenges that covid threw against us, I was still able to have my sanji and had lots of fun.

I’m happy to say that everything still went according to plan. All our families, friends and especially suppliers were so understanding of the situation. Everyone was in it together.

Advice for other brides and grooms to be:
Have the wedding of your dreams, the wedding you have always wanted, try not to let anything get in the way of that! When it’s almost time for your wedding, block out the world, enjoy your functions, it’s all about you!
