Kajil and Kishen are the first ever couple feature I’ve had since starting, “Let’s talk Indian weddings South Africa”. I remember the first time I came across a picture of Kajil dressed as a bride on Instagram and I thought,” Wow! How gorgeous she looks!”
Kajil and Kishen will always be a special couple feature for me. Afterall, they gave momentum to my humble page and for that I will be forever grateful.
We talked to our gorgeous bride Kajil and she had the following to share with us:
How they met:
Kishen and I went to high school together but only started officially dating at the end of 2011.He proposed in 2018 and we relocated to Cape Town two years ago.
Behind the scenes:
The initial date for the wedding was 16 August 2020, however due to lockdown the wedding was moved to 1 August 2021. However, Zimbali contacted us and told us that we could have a wedding this year. Zimbali mentioned that there was availability on 22 November 2020. We said,” Why not? Its been 9 years, so let’s do it!” We called all of our service providers that we had initially booked and by the grace of God everyone was available.
“Weirdly enough, we got married on the anniversary of our first date.”

Planning the big day:
It was a little difficult planning a wedding from Cape Town because we didn’t want to take the risk of constant flying. So that meant that all of our outfits were bought over WhatsApp video. I appreciated that my partner was so supportive and was also so deeply involved in planning our wedding. The day was a reflection of us.
With regards to the décor elements, I knew exactly what I didn’t want. All I kept saying was that I wanted a gender neutral wedding. We wanted to keep it clean and fresh especially for an outdoor setting. Our guest list was only 48 family members to keep in line with the COVID19 regulations. The wedding cards set the theme for the big day.
” Weddings can be beautiful without being feminine.”
The mandaap was built over the infinity pool at the Zimabli lodge, with just the Indian Ocean as our backdrop. We had a mood board which allowed us to centrally pull in our ideas. I recommend that all to be brides and grooms have one.

Now that it’s all over I honestly can look back and say there’s nothing we could or should’ve done that was not already done. It was so perfect and I had so much fun. All of our service providers felt like family.
That day was truly the best day of my life so far. If I had to look back and think about my favourite moment of that weekend, it would have to be the way Kishen looked at me while I walked down the isle. His eyes said,” Yup, that’s my wife!”
Wedding ceremony priceless moments:
Kajil says that the most special moment for her was,” Kishen, looking at me with tears in his eyes as I walked down the isle.”
Kishen says that the most special moment for him was not at the wedding but at their joint hurdee ceremony when he got to apply the specially prepared hurdee paste on his stunning bride Kajil.
