Jesal and Puneet

Jesal and Puneet’s wedding was filled with personality and laughter. I will always remember going through the pictures from Jesal for the first time. It was really special to see how expertly their emotions were captured in a single frame.

Jesal shared with us the following:

How they met:

Puneet and I bumped into each other on several occasions since we were in school. But in 2012, our paths finally crossed again- we danced, we laughed, and we’ve been having the time of our lives ever since. We are complete opposites- our personalities, approach, ability to breathe fire, and most noticeably, our heights, are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum. But our values and what we want from this life are completely aligned.

I would never have chosen a better teammate and life partner to go through this journey with.

Planning the big day:

Wedding planning was absolute bliss. Puneet and I both agreed on the setup of our wedding and the atmosphere we wanted to create for our guests. We opted for a simple cinema-styled setup for the ceremony and a Harry Potter styled lunch. Our venue allowed for guests to move around and mingle and kids to play freely- we wanted it to be relaxed without much of the formalities. We prioritised two things: good food and good music, two of our favourites. This kicked off the night before our wedding at the Sangeet.

I also went with the following approach throughout the planning process which made things a lot easier: if I found something I loved, or a service provider that I had my heart set on, and it was within my means, I went with it. To the point where I had most service providers and outfits purchased more than a year before the wedding.

I loved getting my hands into DIY projects- to also add a personal touch to the festivities. My dad, who I get some of my creative streak from, had just retired and played a pivotal role in helping me get things together. We made a backdrop for my Pithi ceremony out of my mums old crochet hoops, dandiya sticks for one of the Sangeet dances, favours for all functions, and a backdrop out of extra wedding invitations.

Best memories from the wedding ceremony:

The love, energy and joy we felt throughout the festivities is inexplicable. I’m generally quite emotional, but on that day, I was overcome by so much joy and excitement of starting this new adventure with Puneet.

Something my eight year old nephew said to me that really touched my heart: “Jesal foi, you look so different, but your smile is still the same and that’s how I know its you.”

Advice for other couples:

Don’t sweat the small stuff. There are some things that will always be beyond your control. It rained during the week of our wedding and we had load-shedding on the days leading up to the festivities, but we still has the best time.

Embrace the chaos that comes with an Indian wedding and be present during every moment- It is the best day of your life.
