How they met:
Krinolen and I met 9 years ago on campus. We were complete opposites that couldn’t agree on anything except for our common dislike for each other.

A year later, a few friends and I were invited to his birthday dinner. After dinner he asked me to go out with him and the rest is history.

We soon learnt all that we disliked was actually all that we admired about each other. Over the years, we have grown to be best friends and strong pillars of strength to each other in various aspects of our lives.

Planning the big day:
In 2019,we decided to plan #thebigfatnaidoowedding. Sadly due to Covid-19, we had to postpone on various occasions. This resulted in a year delay from the original date set. During planning many of our values and ideals were tested as a couple.

At some points there were absolute highs like when finding what I wanted and having both our ideas somehow merge and form a beautiful picture.

There were also lows which tested our patience, love and strength along with our ability to compromise.

Our wedding story started with our registration which was held at Cafe La Plage in Umhlanga on our 6th anniversary on the 16th January 2021. Due to the many postponements and uncertainty, we decided to get registered before the actual date incase we never got around to hosting our wedding. Small and intimate with just 7 guests including us, an intimate ceremony was performed which was followed by a lavish dinner and us being announced as husband and wife.

The wedding festivities started on the 7th of May 21 with the hosting of the Chai Mehndi Night. Our combined nelengu was hosted at our home. I watched my dreams unfold into reality when the nelengu was hosted the next day, it was a morning filled with loads of happiness, excitement and relief. The evening nelengu was a grand affair as our house was magically transformed into a lavish venue overlooking the pool with sights of the beach.

Our wedding day was held at Coastlands Hotel in Umhlanga.

From the start of our planning I always envisioned a wedding fit for a King and Queen. I wanted pure elegance. My husband’s second name is “Rajahrathanum” which means ‘King’ and through our wedding I wanted to depict the life he has given me thus far.

Walking into our venue I saw my vision brought to life. What started as a drawing on a piece of paper materialized into the most breathtakingly beautiful setup.

To any couple the best advice I have is: Things may not go as planned however, whatever is in store to come will be better than you’ve ever imagined. At the end of it all this day is about your partner and yourself and the love you share.
Don’t let the stress of planning steer you away from enjoying your festivities and most importantly, celebrating your love and commitment!
