Sashen and Shenaide

Sashen and I know each other for about 10 years. We’ve been dating for 8 and have been engaged for around 4 or 5 years. Sashen is Hindi and I’m Christian. We decided to marry according to Hindu tradition – it’s been a 1 month married so far and I am adjusting to Hindu traditions.

We both are ’92 babies. We love and enjoy the same hobbies. If there isn’t a common one we tend to rub off on each other. That’s what makes it fun .We purchased our first home together last year. We are ever so grateful that we were able to do that independently.

We are crazy responsible kids who’ve married and we loving experiencing new adventures together!!!

We held my mehndi at my residence with just the immediate family in attendance. The event was Egyptian themed. My guests dressed in white and gold in keeping with the theme for the night.

I love the colour blue so decided to up cycle a saree which I really loved into a short skirt and top for my mehndi. It was an experimental look and I’m glad I took the risk! It turned out to look gorgeous!

Sashen’s hurdee was held at his residence and mine was at Pesco hall.

My hurdee was Arabian themed .We had Nagara stars as entertainment for the event. I decided to wear a light yellow and pink lengha.

Planning our wedding was a bumpy experience. Some of our relatives couldn’t understand why I wanted a garden wedding and didn’t agree with my vision. We had many differences with our parents when planning.

To add to all of the drama we sadly lost a relative and had to change our wedding date from 11 December 2021 to 8th January 2022.

COVID19 also messed our planning up. Our wedding had only 50 guests. My dad tested positive for COVID three weeks before the wedding and was very ill. Sashen’s also mum tested positive two weeks before the wedding.

On the bright side of all of that, wedding shopping was so much fun. Sashen never really refused anything I wanted!

At the end of our wedding day almost everyone complemented me on planning a beautiful wedding.

A special memory from our wedding day is our first dance as husband and wife. It was the first time we ever slow danced. Sashen sang to me while dancing. It was absolutely precious.
