My husband and I formally met at work despite knowing each other at campus years before. We both worked shifts. I was working overtime on a night shift and it just so happened to be his shift as well. At around 4am I decided to go to the canteen for a cup of coffee before our meeting at 4:30am. I ran into Sumendren at the canteen because he decided to make coffee as well. We started talking and didn’t end up showing for the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We spoke till 5am that day. Seven years and two kids later, we haven’t stopped talking to each other!”<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Honestly, planning our wedding was stressful. Sumendren and I paid for our wedding entirely by ourselves. We catered for 200 people. Many of my family members also did not attend the wedding due to a death in the family just two days before my wedding!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regardless of the unforeseen circumstances, we both enjoyed the process of planning our wedding. We knew that we wanted to marry each other. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sumendren gave in to all of my requests and our service providers were happy to oblige. He just wanted me to be happy on our big day!<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

My parents have passed on, so Sumendren wanted to me to be as happy as possible. He knew how much I wanted my parents to be at our wedding.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Load shedding occurred in the middle of our wedding which caused us a bit of anxiety. However, we didn’t allow it to dampen our spirits. We were determined to enjoy the day because our wedding wasn’t going to happen again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had a traditional Govender- Tamil wedding since we both share the same surname. We will be married for four years on the 10th February 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A special memory Sumendren and I share is our first dance as husband and wife. We rehearsed our dance as often as we could during the days leading up to our wedding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During our dance there was a step where he had to catch me. We didn’t think he could because my outfit was quite heavy. In the end he did and we both were so excited. The look on our faces said it all!<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Advice for other brides and grooms to be is to enjoy the day because it goes by so fast. Then to invest in a good photographer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having a good photographer should be a priority because when everything is done and dusted all you have is the photos. <\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Lastly, only invite people that you know and those who are close to you-not people that you meet for the first time on your wedding day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
